Dinosaur Provincial Park

Today the 2 of us headed out on our own to Dinosaur Provincial Park, 45 minutes away.  There was NO ONE else on the road:

We had not really heard about this place before Paul told us, so it was not on our bucket list, but it should have been!  This was the view as we entered the FREE park:

The Dinosaur Provincial Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is 75 square km.  This is one of the richest dinosaur fossil locations in the world, discovered as early as the 1880's.  There have been 58 dinosaur species discovered here.  More than 500 specimens have been removed and placed in museums around the world.

There is a nice Scenic Loop Road with trails along the way.  We hiked ALL of them.

The Badlands Trail:

Fossil Displays:

Trail of the Fossil Hunters.  In the early 1900s there was a competition between Barnum Brown from the Museum of Natural History in New York, and Charles Sternberg from Canada.  We can't believe that people from other countries just came and took away whatever dinosaurs they found.  Barnum Brown found a t-rex.  This is the site where he dug:

The Cottonwood Flats Trail:

We saw 2 mule deer here.  Can you see them?

We went off trail and found the floodlands:

The Coulee Viewpoint Trail:

Were we supposed to go here????

The Prairie Trail:

On the way home, we saw that someone had caught himself a dinosaur:

We saw a lot of magpies:

We got back to Paul's place at 5 pm and were greeted with a roast beef dinner.  Thanks, Paul!
Located in the badlands.
