Patagonia - At Sea (March 7)

Thursday, March 7

Today we were at sea again.  A nice calm day.  Thank goodness!

So what exactly is "Patagonia"???  It is not a nation or even a province.  It's a "region" that consists of the southern area of Argentina and Chile.

It seems that nobody can really agree on where it begins.  But it generally encompasses everything that is south of latitude 40° (so, south of the 2 arrows). Or maybe the area between 39° and 59°?

What is the origin of the word "Patagonia"?  It seems there was a popular book at the time that featured wild, primitive people called Patagonians.  And when Ferdinand Magellan landed in Argentina and met some natives, the word sprang to his mind.

As promised, here is a description of our very unique dinner last night at Le Petit Chef.  This is immersive dining that uses 3D mapping technology.  We watched animated characters prepare each of the four courses.

Anton was able to order the "main" menu, which was the one that followed the animated show.  Frankie had to order the "other" menu, but still enjoyed the show. Between the animations, they played the same song OVER AND OVER again "Je t'ai formidable".

Quite a lazy day today. In the morning, the naturalist Milos gave a talk on "Fire and Ice". In the afternoon, we cuddled into some chairs and read.

It was a bit cool outside but then we discovered that the sun had come around to our side of the ship, so we went to our balcony.  It was quite lovely, and we were treated to some whale sightings and dolphins.  But they were too quick for pictures.

After dinner, the show was probably the BEST cruise ship show we have ever seen.  It was called Topper, and it was about Sir Peabody who keeps his eccentric friends locked away in a giant hat.  But they keep escaping.  Great singing, dancing, and even aerialist performers.

Then we came back to the cabin to a really nice ocean sunset.  I think we picked the right side of the boat 😊
